Dear Parents,
This weeks homework is about poetry. The children are to think of proper words that rhyme with the words provided. Then they have to write their own poem using the words they have found.
Please encourage your child to write the small poem, as it can be fun and lovely to see what ideas the children can come up with!
Here is an example to help:
Once there was a beautiful cat
Who loved sleeping on her mat
One morning she woke
She heard a frog croak
And she said what on earth is that!
Happy Rhyming!
Year 2 Team
In our ICT work we have started to look at writing code using a program called Scratch. The children are enjoying learning about coding! The program can be downloaded FREE from https://scratch.mit.edu/
We always work offline at school and do not save it to the website.
We have looked at:
Changing the sprite (creature/person) and the stage (background).
Making the sprite move and turn.
Adding sound to our sprite.
We will be investigating more features over the next few weeks!

Dear Parents,
For spelling homework over the half term could you please practise all previous spellings in your child's spelling book. They will be tested on all the spellings they have learnt on return to school.
We hope you all have a lovely half term.
Year 2 Team
Dear Parents,
The homework for half term is to write a diary entry about activities that the children may do whilst away from school. This is to consolidate the literacy work we have been completing. The children have really enjoyed learning the structure of letters and diary entries. Could you please encourage your child to use conjunctions, verbs, adjectives, nouns and adverbs. Please take a look at the examples of diary entries based on eye witness accounts of the Great Fire of London. The children need to focus on the structure and make their entry interesting.
Thank you for all your support this term. Have a great half term.

Dear Parents,
Speaker’s Corner
As part of our Literacy work on Speaking and Listening, we will be starting our Speaker’s Corner talks this term. This is a chance for every child to speak to the rest of their class about a topic that they like. In the past, children have spoken about favourite toys, pets/animals, sports, countries they have visited – any subject that they find interesting!
We would like the children to produce a talk which lasts between 2-4 minutes on their chosen subject. They can have it written down on paper, cue cards or memorise it!
Also, if they want to bring in pictures, objects or put together some images to show on the interactive whiteboard that would be great. We would rather they did not produce a presentation (e.g. Powerpoint) as this encourages them to talk to the interactive board rather than the class!
After their talk, children will then have the opportunity to answer questions about their chosen topic from their classmates.
Your child will be given a date for their talk so they have time to prepare it. We will be giving these out next week.
If there are any problems or issues, please ask!
Year 2 Teachers
Dear Parents,
This Week we have been teaching the children all about imperative verbs (bossy verbs). We have done this through games, acting and instructional writing. The homework this week is based on instructional writing to consolidate what the children have learnt. It is very important that they use imperative verbs.
We have attached pictures of how the children's work should be displayed/written in their homework books. Please could you encourage this at home. We have also attached a document which has loads of examples of imperative verbs that the children might like to use (optional).
Thank you for your support
Year 2 Team
Dear Parents,
This weeks homework is for Literacy- we have given the children a comprehension task. Please instruct the children that they need to read the text carefully and then attempt to answer the questions. They do not need to re-write the questions but on the next page they have to answer the questions in full sentences. For example if they had the question:
Why was the boy sad?
Their answer should be drawn from the text:
The boy was sad because he lost his balloon.
If the children do get stuck with any of the question encourage them to re-read the text.
Thank you for your support and have a lovely weekend!
Year 2 Team
Dear Parents,
The children's sentences were great this week. We have been teaching them to use conjunctions during literacy. So could you please try to encourage this at home also. They will become more confident if they're are using it at school and home.
Conjunctions
Thank you for your hard work.
Year 2 Team
Dear Parents,
Year 2 got amazing scores in their spelling test today. We are very proud of them. Thank you for all your hard work. We look forward to moving many children up to the next amount of spellings next week. Please feel free to look at the other words on the spelling list, as they become more difficult quite quickly!
Kind regards
Year 2 Team
Dear Parents,
This weeks homework can be accessed through 'My Maths' on the 15.9.17. Please be aware that when partitioning a number, we no longer use the vocabulary 'units'. The children are aware of this and now call it 'ones'.
Kind regards
Year 2 Team
