CURRICULUM STATEMENT
At Walker we aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum for all our children including the more able and those with special educational needs. This curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and covers the following subjects;
English
Mathematics
Science
Information and Communication Technology
Art
Design and Technology
History
Geography
Music
Physical Education
Religious Education
Modern Foreing Languages (French)
Sustainability
PSHCE (Personal,Social,Health,Citizenship,Emotional)
All classes from Year 1 are taught these subjects. Our Reception classes follow an Foundation Stage curriculum, which prepares the children for the National Curriculum which starts in Year 1.
The work the children undertake has been planned by the class teachers and support teachers and is based upon schemes of work prepared by the subject co-ordinators. The class teachers plan the work with their year group colleague to ensure continuity across the year group.
At the start of every school year parents will be informed about the curriculum to be followed in their childs' class and we hope that you will be able to offer help and support to your child by discussing the themes with them.
You may be asked to take your child to the library or to visit the local area as part of a local history project. We believe that your positive involvement in this way can really help your child at school. Every term you will be sent written details of the curriculum your child will be studying and any trips or visits planned for the class. If you have any relevant skills or knowledge and can help with any class work the class teacher would always be pleased to hear from you.
If you would like to find out more about the individual subjects your child will studying then copies of the schemes of work can found in the library.
