Y3 had the pleasure of playing some language games with two visiting students from UCL who introduced the children to Mandarin Chinese. 

 

Congradulations to Y5 classes. They have started and are enjoying the Mandarin Chinese classes!

Mrs Song has kindly been helping us with the pronunciation.

If you wish to assist us in  Mandarin or French class please contact Mrs Lucas. Mrs Song, the mother of Peter(3S) is currently assisting the classes every Thursday afternoon in Y5 and Friday mornings in Y6.

AUTUMN 2018

In French and Mandarin classes this term:

 

Y6‚Äč  Will learn to say what nationality they are in Mandarin. They will be able to identify the 4 main tones and how important these are. They will identify where they live when asked and say how many siblings they have. They will identify other family members and use adjectives to describe them.They will also identify the countries which border China and learn about China's diverse culture.

Y5 Will be introduced to Chinese, Mandarin. They will be learning greetings, numbers to 100, names of food items and be able to converse using simple words and phrases. They will  also be studying the Chinese culture including the Dragon Boat Festival, The Chinese New Year and the other important events on the Lunar calendar and learning names of food items associated with these.

Y4 will be naming various Francophone countries. They will be able to say what language they speak and what nationality they are and be able to use 3rd person pronouns to describe someone else.

Y3 Will be learning how to greet each other in French. They will learn the names of some musical instruments and identify masculine and positive articles.

We believe that learning a Modern Foreign Language is an essential component in preparing young people for life in the twenty-first century. 

 

THE RIGOLO SCHEME OF WORK IS USED BASED ON GUIDANCE GIVEN IN KEY STAGE FRAMEWORK FOR LANGUAGES, THE NATIONAL CURRICULUM AND QCA GUIDELINES.

 

MANDARIN CLASSES USE A VIDEO LINK WITH CHINA, CALLED

'MY CHINESE TEACHER'.
