Walker Primary School Inspiring a love of learning in a supportive community

Response to Black Lives Matter

Since 2018, October has always been the month to celebrate Equality & Diversity, but since the Black Lives Matter movement, we have reviewed how and where we celebrate the achievements of those with a Black heritage and where we teach the stories of Black history that have not been told.

We continue to review this with all stakeholders.

We also supported pupils to understand and discuss the events of Summer 2020.

Year 6 pupils responded with their thoughts on the events, which we shared with the school in the monthly newsletter.

Assemblies celebrating Black achievements and raising the profile of Black role models. These were created with pupils, staff and families input.
