Enfield Schools Meals Newsletter January 2016

SCHOOL MEALS -November 2013
WE ARE CONSTANTLY WORKING TO IMPROVE OUR SCHOOL LUNCHES.
MORE HOME COOKED - LESS PROCESSED FOOD.

At Walker, the children enjoy school meals prepared on site.  The menu is on a 3 week cycle and there is a variety of meals over this time. There is always a vegetarian option. Our salad bar is a great success to help our children make healthy choices. Our menu is based on low fat and low salt. We have home cooked meals on the menu. The three week menu can be viewed below.

FEBRUARY 2013 -
LETTER SENT TO HEADTEACHERS FROM CATERING SERVICE REGARDING MEAT CONTENT IN SCHOOL LUNCHES.

Dear Headteacher,

Meat served in Enfield schools

I am writing to reassure you regarding school meals. All our meat suppliers have confirmed they have not purchased meat from anyone reported to have used undeclared horse, or pork meat.  In addition, they will continue to monitor this using compositional analysis.

We have written confirmation from all our suppliers: William White Meats Ltd; Brakes Group and Pasta King to that effect.

These suppliers regularly test the meat and produce that is sold to council catering services. The Council follows the guidance from the Food Standards Agency.

Sampling and testing of food served in schools and council premises is a regular requirement so that we maintain high standards of nutrition, quality and hygiene.

Please can you put this on your school website to reassure parents / carers.

Yours sincerely,

Dinner money should be paid via Parent Pay.

Children may bring a packed lunch to school . Please ensure that any drinks brought to school are in a suitable container. We do not allow any fizzy drinks, cans, or glass bottles, crisps, sweets and chocolate bars are also discouraged.
We ask parents to provide a healthy packed lunch. Ideas for these are often available via the newsletter.

Unfortunately we do not have the facilities to support hot packed lunches.

N.B. Lunch boxes should be clearly marked with their owner's name.

We have lunchtime supervisors who look after the welfare of the children, both in the hall and out in the playground, for the whole of the lunch break. Many of our supervisors have taken an Emergency First Aid course and one of the school's Welfare Assistants is also on call should she be needed. A member of the Senior Management Team is also on duty at lunchtime. School menus are regularly posted outside the office and are displayed daily in the hall.

If you require information about free meals, forms are available from the School Office, or you may apply direct to the Education Department at the Civic Centre.

The menus are on a three week cycle.
